We are very excited to welcome Sophie Nevill to the Truself Explorers community! Sophie specializes in what she refers to as "spiritual therapy", where she combines her expertise in meditation and psychotherapy to help others heal with kindness and mindfulness.
Tell us more about what you do.
I’m a registered psychotherapist and meditation teacher. I have been teaching meditation for the last 9 years and I also do something called transpersonal psychotherapy. Transpersonal psychotherapy is like a spiritual type of therapy that I like to think of as a type of therapy for the soul. It integrates the heart, body, mind and spirit.
It is similar to "talk therapy" but holds the higher perspective that we are essentially spiritual beings having a human experience, rather than simply humans having a spiritual experience. I like to integrate meditation into my therapy sessions, as well as dreamwork, angel cards, attachment theory and something called internal family systems.
Through my therapy I aim to help clients turn towards different part of themselves – both the ‘light’ and the ‘dark’, with compassion and curiosity so that they can slowly start to integrate these different, and potentially disowned aspects of themselves, and step ever more fully into their divine selves that they were always destined to be.
I regularly encourage clients to ask ‘what is the kindest thing I can say to myself?’. I believe many of us have never really been taught how to be kind to ourselves. Thus, I try to support clients in re-wiring their brains to turn towards themselves with compassion and understanding rather than judgment and shame. It is my belief that it is only from this place of kindness and acceptance that we can truly heal and come into a greater sense of wholeness and security within ourselves.
Recently I’ve also started to run meditation and sound healing retreats in England. I am very lucky that I was born onto a very old and beautiful deer park, just south of London and always knew that I would one day inherit the land. At the age of 18 I had a clear realization and vision that the reason my soul had been born onto this land and into this family was so that I could one day use it to bring as much Light to this area of the world as possible. Thus, it has always been my dream to create an international retreat center and organic farm on the land, as well as run conscious spiritual festivals. I have been building the foundation in myself to run something of this scale for the last 10 years and have finally felt ready this year to put these dreams into action.
I have already run some retreats on the land and they have been a great success. I do weekend ones, as well as one-day retreats. They involve sound healing, meditation teaching, nature walking, forest bathing and delicious vegan food. I think there is a great need for people to have access to more calming and relaxing retreats where they can really connect to themselves, especially ones that are so accessible to London. I am very excited about building this retreat center up over the next few years!
I’m also a singer and songwriter and sound healing. I play the gong and guitar and write most of my songs from my own life experience. My music has been described as ‘folk-like, spiritual, other-wordly and healing’. I like to perform in sweet intimate settings but definitely need to start performing more!
What is your motivation for doing what you do?
I learned meditation when I was 18 and I started teaching when I was 19 because I had such a profound experience meditating and I just wanted to share it with as many people as I possibly could. It just feels like there’s such a need in our collective right now for just a deeper level of peace among all the chaos. It feels as if there’s a need for people to start to step back from the noise of the mind and find another grounded way of being, that stems from the heart rather than the mind. I also feel a deep desire in me to share all that I’ve learned and hope that maybe it might resonate with people and help them on their journey.
Do you promote yourself? How does someone book a journey with you?
I usually promote myself through word of mouth, or through my website – www.thekindesthing.com or my instagram @the_kindest_thing. I also collaborate with Rob Horsfall, and share some of my teachings and articles on his wonderful retreat website.
My price range is between £60-80 per hour. I also provide some ‘low-income’ spaces for those that cannot pay this much, as I think it is so important that this kind of healing is made accessible to everyone.
I also practice trading, but rarely for therapy. Usually I trade with meditation sessions and angel-card readings.
Do you travel often? Where? Why?
I was living in Boulder Colorado for the last 3 years and visited many of the incredible spiritual spots in the US. I recently went to Sri Lanka to host at a retreat center called Sen Wellness, and am planning to travel to Hawaii and Portugal in the Summer. For me, I always love to travel to places that hold a certain Light and high vibrational energy. You know, those true power places in the world, like Sedona or Mount Shasta or Glastonbury.
What kinds of events, workshops, or other do you attend? which retreats you visit?
I love kirtan and ecstatic dance and really love and feel very nourished when I find a spiritual teacher that I resonate with and who really speaks to my heart. I also love scaravelli yoga - it’s like a dance form of yoga, very feminine and beautiful. Mostly anything to do with sound, community, dancing, healing, non-duality and meditation!
What do you think of the Truself Explorers community?
I think it will be really powerful. I feel like we’re bombarded with so many different things and choices and especially in the well-being world. It’s hard to know who to see and where to go. I was even looking on instagram yesterday…there’s sooo much you can look at and you can get lost in it.
I really think there’s a need for a platform like this that brings people together in a conscious way and a platform that people can really trust.
How will the Truself Explorers community enrich your current experience?
I think I’m both a journey provider and an explorer. Even when I was looking briefly on the website I saw all these amazing things that I can’t wait to read and see people’s experiences. So as an explorer I feel like I’m going to learn and see so many things through it and if I travel I’m going to be able to connect with so many new people…I already feel blessed I’ve met you! And as a provider I feel it’s a really beautiful way for me to meet potential new clients who maybe wouldn’t have heard of me or wouldn’t have found my website if not for trueself explorers. So I think it’s a win-win for everyone!
